What this trial studies
This study aims to explore how emotions and cold exposure influence blood flow in the body, as well as how insulin affects blood flow and glucose uptake in individuals with obesity. It consists of two parts: a dose escalation study to determine the lowest effective dose of a PET radiotracer, and a series of PET studies examining the effects of emotional stimuli and insulin on circulation. Participants will undergo screening, physical examinations, and glucose tolerance tests before being involved in PET imaging sessions using a Siemens Biovision Quadra PET/CT scanner.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20-60 with a BMI of either 18.5-25 kg/m2 or above 30 kg/m2.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of obesity or type 2 diabetes in the lean group, or those currently using GLP-1-agonists or insulin in the obesity group, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of glucose metabolism in obesity, potentially leading to improved treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of approaches in this study may be novel, similar studies have shown success in understanding metabolic processes in obesity.
