What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the causes and epidemiology of acute kidney injury (AKI) by identifying associated risk factors and their impact on patient prognosis. It focuses on the relationship between protein-energy wasting, serum nutritional variables, and various uremic toxins in AKI patients. The study will also evaluate the role of mineral bone disorders and other mortality risk factors in predicting outcomes for individuals diagnosed with AKI. By analyzing these factors, the research seeks to enhance understanding of AKI and improve patient management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 88 who have been clinically diagnosed with acute kidney injury according to KDIGO criteria.
Not a fit: Patients with preexisting chronic kidney failure, known acute renal dysfunction, or those who have been hospitalized for less than 24 hours may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better prognostic tools and treatment strategies for patients with acute kidney injury.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored similar risk factors in AKI, but this specific approach focusing on nutritional variables and uremic toxins is relatively novel.
