Investigating brain activity patterns in Parkinson's disease during movement

Parkinsonism-Related Oscillations in the Cortico-Basal Ganglia-Thalamic Network During Movement: Beyond the Frequency Range

Not applicable Interventional University Hospital, Bordeaux · NCT06438419

What this trial studies

This study aims to explore the relationship between neuronal oscillations in the cortico-subcortical network and motor performance in patients with Parkinson's disease who have undergone subthalamic deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS). Using high-resolution EEG, the research will collect local field potentials during a simple motor task under various pharmacological and stimulation conditions. The goal is to understand how these oscillations correlate with hypokinetic and hyperkinetic symptoms, potentially leading to improved treatment strategies for Parkinson's disease.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 to 75 with idiopathic Parkinson's disease who have undergone STN-DBS or are candidates for the procedure.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to provide informed consent or have serious psychiatric or somatic illnesses may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could enhance our understanding of Parkinson's disease and lead to better-targeted therapies for managing motor symptoms.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on neuronal oscillations in Parkinson's disease, this specific approach using high-resolution EEG and the PERCEPT™ system is relatively novel.
