What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze the epidemiology and outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients admitted to University Hospital San Martino in Genova, Italy. Researchers will extract data from the hospital's electronic database, focusing on demographic, clinical, and laboratory information, including factors such as age, sex, serum creatinine levels, and ICU admissions. The study will also evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on AKI outcomes and compare results between medical wards and ICU settings. The primary goal is to describe AKI epidemiology, while secondary objectives include identifying risk factors and clinical outcomes related to AKI.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients admitted to University Hospital San Martino, including those with COVID-19.
Not a fit: Patients currently undergoing hemodialysis will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of AKI in hospitalized patients, leading to improved prevention and management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have successfully investigated AKI epidemiology, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing research.
