What this trial studies
This multicenter retrospective observational study aims to catalog the specific and non-specific vocal cord lesions that lead to dysphonia in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases. It will identify participants suffering from dysphonia and review their medical records to determine the main lesions responsible, any delays in diagnosis, and management strategies. The study focuses on conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, exploring lesions like 'bamboo nodes' and other irritative factors. The findings could help improve understanding and management of dysphonia in this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with a systemic autoimmune disease who are experiencing dysphonia and have identifiable vocal cord lesions.
Not a fit: Patients with dysphonia due to neurological conditions, malignancies, or those under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the diagnosis and treatment of dysphonia in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been small series reported on similar conditions, this study aims to provide a more comprehensive inventory, making it a novel approach.
