What this trial studies
FRESH Delivers aims to reduce tobacco use among rural Black African American smokers by combining real-time video-based motivational counseling with home-based food deliveries. The study hypothesizes that this dual intervention will lead to higher rates of smoking cessation compared to either intervention alone. By addressing food security, the study seeks to fill a gap in existing research and provide a holistic approach to smoking cessation. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Black African American smokers aged 21 to 75, living in specific counties in Arkansas, who are interested in quitting smoking.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the eligibility criteria or are not interested in quitting smoking may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve smoking cessation rates among rural Black smokers, thereby reducing tobacco-related health disparities.
How similar studies have performed: While some studies have shown success in increasing food security and its effects on health, this specific approach combining food delivery with smoking cessation counseling is novel.
