What this trial studies

This study aims to implement a multi-level intervention designed to enhance the initiation of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among Black women in Baltimore, who are at high risk for HIV. The intervention addresses socio-structural barriers such as intimate partner violence and gendered racism that hinder access to PrEP. By utilizing peer navigation groups, the study seeks to provide support and resources to facilitate PrEP initiation among participants. The effectiveness, implementation, and sustainability of this approach will be assessed throughout the study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are self-identified Black cisgender women who are HIV-negative, at least 18 years old, and have reported unprotected sex with male partners along with substantial HIV risk factors.

Not a fit: Patients who are non-English speaking or currently living with HIV will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly increase PrEP initiation rates among Black women, thereby reducing their risk of HIV infection.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically targeting this demographic with a multi-level intervention, similar studies have shown promise in addressing barriers to PrEP access in other populations.
