What this trial studies

This study tests a preventative exercise program called PEER aimed at helping older adults improve their balance and align their perceived risk of falling with their actual physical risk. Participants will engage in peer-led exercises and cognitive reframing techniques over approximately nine months. The study will compare outcomes between those in the PEER intervention and a control group, focusing on balance, fall risk, and physical activity levels. Additionally, it will explore adherence to the exercise program and changes in self-perception regarding aging and fall risk.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 60 and above who are living independently and do not have significant cognitive impairments.

Not a fit: Patients with uncontrolled cardiac conditions or those currently receiving rehabilitation treatment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the incidence of falls among older adults, enhancing their safety and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using exercise programs to reduce fall risk in older adults, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
