What this trial studies
This project aims to develop and test the COMPASS Across Settings (CAST) intervention to enhance goal setting and attainment skills for autistic youth. It addresses the lack of positive postsecondary outcomes for these students by integrating three evidence-based interventions while providing coaching support to caregivers, students, and employment specialists. The research will involve focus groups and a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of CAST in public high schools in Indiana, measuring outcomes at 3 months and 1 year after high school.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include students with verified autism who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that designate services for autism, along with their caregivers and special education teachers.
Not a fit: Patients who are not planning to move or leave their job over the school year may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve postsecondary outcomes for autistic students and their families.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar integrated approaches, but this specific intervention is novel in its comprehensive coaching support.
