What this trial studies

This project aims to enhance the engagement of HIV-positive individuals undergoing cancer treatment in Zimbabwe. It focuses on identifying barriers that hinder access to HIV care while patients are receiving cancer treatment. The study will observe 150 patients at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, measuring disruptions in HIV care engagement and developing strategies to address these challenges. By collaborating with experts and stakeholders, the project seeks to create effective interventions to improve care continuity for these patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are HIV-positive individuals aged 18 or older who are receiving cancer treatment for a new diagnosis at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Not a fit: Patients with benign diagnoses or those experiencing cancer recurrence may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly improve the health outcomes of patients with both HIV and cancer by ensuring they remain engaged in their HIV treatment during cancer therapy.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of integrating HIV and cancer care is critical, this specific study's methodology is novel and has not been extensively tested in similar contexts.
