What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate a multi-modal, patient-directed behavioral intervention designed to enhance the uptake of updated COVID-19 vaccines among Black and Latinx individuals with autoimmune and inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The intervention includes patient narratives, educational videos, and brochures that address vaccine information and the importance of oral health. By focusing on these populations, the study seeks to reduce health disparities and improve vaccination rates in communities that have historically faced barriers to healthcare access. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive the intervention or standard care to assess its effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Black or Latinx adults aged 18 and older with known autoimmune and inflammatory rheumatic diseases who have not yet received the updated COVID-19 vaccine.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have access to a phone or who have already received the updated COVID-19 vaccine will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly increase COVID-19 vaccination rates among high-risk populations, leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using patient narratives and educational interventions to improve health outcomes in minority populations, suggesting this approach may be effective.
