What this trial studies
This study investigates how indoor environmental exposures affect respiratory symptoms and lung function in school-aged children diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Researchers will measure various indoor air quality factors, including nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, and allergens, to assess their relationship with respiratory health. Participants will undergo a one-time clinic visit for health assessments and two home visits for environmental sampling over the course of one year. The goal is to identify harmful indoor components that contribute to respiratory issues in children with BPD.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 6-12 years who were born prematurely (less than 32 weeks gestational age) and have a diagnosis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone major airway or chest surgery or have physical or mental impairments preventing spirometry may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of respiratory health in children with BPD by identifying harmful indoor air quality factors.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the impact of environmental factors on respiratory health, suggesting that this approach has potential for meaningful insights.
