What this trial studies
This study investigates the health effects of different firefighting training conditions on cardiovascular, reproductive, and cancer risk markers. It employs a crossover design where participants undergo training sessions under varying conditions: no fire, wood fire, and gas fire. The study aims to assess the individual contributions of stressors such as heat, smoke, and soot on health outcomes. Participants will be monitored for biomarkers related to cardiovascular health, reproductive health, and cancer risk during these training exercises.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are male and female conscripts enrolled in a Rescue Specialist Educational course who are legally competent and meet specific health criteria.
Not a fit: Patients who are current smokers, pregnant, on prescribed medication, or have a BMI outside the specified range may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved health and safety protocols for firefighters, reducing their risk of cardiovascular disease, infertility, and cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on occupational health risks among firefighters, this specific approach of assessing different training conditions is relatively novel.
