What this trial studies
This study investigates how a plant-based diet affects the activity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in adults. Participants aged 18 and older with varying levels of RA activity will follow an individualized, isocaloric plant-based diet for 14 days. The study will measure changes in disease severity using the 28-joint disease activity score index and c-reactive protein levels. The goal is to determine if dietary modifications can lead to reduced inflammation and improved RA symptoms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with a confirmed diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and moderate to severe disease activity.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic autoimmune diseases other than specified conditions, those on certain medications, or with recent significant weight changes may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a dietary intervention that significantly reduces inflammation and improves quality of life for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have suggested dietary modifications can influence inflammation in RA, indicating potential success for this approach.
