What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify new potential biomarkers associated with gastrointestinal cancers by analyzing tissue and biological fluid samples from patients undergoing colonoscopy, endoscopy, or surgery. Participants include both cancer patients and healthy volunteers, with samples collected for proteomic analysis to discover substances that may indicate cancer risk. The study also seeks to develop new screening strategies based on these biomarkers. Participants will be followed for up to five years to assess the prognostic significance of identified biomarkers.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals undergoing colonoscopy or endoscopy for diagnostic or screening purposes who have a diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancer, polyps, or inflammatory bowel disease.

Not a fit: Patients who do not require colonoscopy or endoscopy and do not have a history of gastrointestinal issues may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved screening and early detection strategies for gastrointestinal cancers.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in identifying biomarkers for cancer detection, suggesting that this approach may yield valuable insights.
