Identifying biomarkers for vascular anomalies

Identification of Biomarkers for Patients with Vascular Anomalies

Observational Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati · NCT03001180

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify non-invasive blood biomarkers for patients with various vascular anomalies, including Generalized Lymphatic Anomaly and Gorham-Stout Disease. Participants undergoing surgical procedures or sclerotherapy will have blood and tissue samples collected to analyze angiogenic factors and understand disease-causing pathways. The goal is to improve diagnosis and treatment options for these rare and potentially life-threatening conditions by avoiding invasive tissue biopsies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients undergoing surgical resection or sclerotherapy for vascular anomalies who consent to participate.

Not a fit: Patients who do not have vascular anomalies or are not undergoing the specified procedures may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better diagnostic tools and targeted therapies for patients with vascular anomalies.

How similar studies have performed: While vascular anomalies are rare, similar studies focusing on biomarker identification in other conditions have shown promise, suggesting potential for success in this novel approach.
