What this trial studies

This observational study will examine a sample of Egyptian adults at Cairo University to estimate how frequently oral mucosal lesions (OMLs) occur. Participants will receive an oral clinical examination and complete a questionnaire about medical history, tobacco and oral habits, denture use, and other potential risk factors. Researchers will calculate prevalence rates and use statistical analysis to identify associations between lesions and demographic or behavioral factors. No experimental treatments or interventions are provided as part of the project.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 and older who are Egyptian, able to consent, and able to open their mouth and provide accurate health and habit information are eligible.

Not a fit: People who refuse participation, who cannot open their mouth, or who need immediate medical attention for acute symptoms are unlikely to benefit from this observational project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help clinicians and public-health planners better target screening and prevention for oral mucosal lesions in Egypt.

How similar studies have performed: Similar cross-sectional surveys in other countries have successfully documented OML prevalence and common risk factors such as tobacco use and denture-related trauma.
