What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a 12-week theory-based home-based multi-component exercise program designed for older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study will compare participants who engage in the exercise program with those on a waiting list to assess improvements in physical activity, glycaemic control, muscle mass, muscle strength, cognitive function, and overall quality of life. The trial will utilize a randomized controlled design and will involve 96 eligible participants recruited from a community health service center in Guangzhou, China. Data will be collected at baseline and after the intervention to determine the program's impact on preventing sarcopenia and enhancing health outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are community-dwelling older adults aged 60 years or above who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and can communicate in Chinese.

Not a fit: Patients who have been diagnosed with sarcopenia or have contraindications to exercise will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve physical health and quality of life for older adults with type 2 diabetes by preventing sarcopenia.
