What this trial studies
This clinical trial tests a disclosure intervention aimed at individuals undergoing treatment for opioid use disorder. Participants will engage in a brief intervention designed to facilitate key disclosures about their condition and enhance their skills in sharing this information. The effectiveness of this intervention will be evaluated by comparing treatment and recovery outcomes one year later with those of participants in a waitlist group who will receive the intervention after the study period. The goal is to determine if the intervention leads to improved social support and reduced stigma.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals receiving treatment for opioid use disorder at Brandywine Counseling & Community Services who are considering disclosing their history to others.
Not a fit: Patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or those who have participated in a pilot study of the intervention may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could improve treatment outcomes and recovery for individuals with opioid use disorder by enhancing their social support networks.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches to addressing stigma and social support in substance use treatment have shown promise, this specific intervention is novel and has not been extensively tested.
