What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of two evidence-based interventions, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), for children and adolescents aged 5-17 who have experienced trauma and are facing additional stress from racialized trauma and acculturation. The interventions aim to address emotional dysregulation associated with PTSD in both the child and their parent or guardian. By focusing on the unique challenges posed by racial and cultural factors, the study seeks to provide tailored support for affected families.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children and adolescents aged 5-17 who have experienced trauma and are showing signs of PTSD, along with a parent or guardian willing to participate.
Not a fit: Patients with intellectual disabilities or those experiencing active suicidality or homicidality may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the mental health outcomes of traumatized children and their families by providing culturally sensitive therapeutic interventions.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar therapeutic approaches, particularly in addressing trauma in diverse populations, indicating a promising avenue for this intervention.
