What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a group therapy intervention called Sleep School for patients with chronic insomnia in primary care settings. Participants will attend weekly sessions for six weeks, where they will learn cognitive behavioral techniques to manage their insomnia. The study will compare the outcomes of those receiving Sleep School to those receiving standard treatment, which involves brief counseling from a nurse. The primary focus is to determine if Sleep School significantly reduces the negative impacts of insomnia compared to usual care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults experiencing chronic insomnia with a severity index score of at least 8.
Not a fit: Patients with diagnosed dementia, acute suicidality, or acute psychotic symptoms may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide an effective non-pharmacological treatment option for patients suffering from chronic insomnia.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia is effective, suggesting that this approach may also yield positive results.
