What this trial studies

This mixed-method, device- and drug-free interventional project uses the Go Wish Game—a deck of cards listing concrete end-of-life priorities—to prompt values-based conversations between patients, caregivers, and clinicians. It enrolls adults (≥18) with refractory lymphomas, leukemia, multiple myeloma, or advanced solid tumors and an estimated prognosis greater than three months who can communicate in Italian and provide written consent. The primary aim is to test the feasibility of delivering the card-based intervention in hematology and oncology settings across participating centers. Quantitative measures and qualitative interviews will capture acceptability, uptake, and whether advance care planning documentation is completed.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are Italian-speaking adults (≥18) with refractory lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, or advanced solid tumors, with estimated prognosis >3 months, who can communicate and give written consent and do not have severe cognitive impairment or serious psychiatric illness.

Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive impairment or serious psychiatric conditions, those unable to communicate in Italian or provide written consent, or those with very limited prognosis are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could make it easier for seriously ill patients and their families to express care preferences and increase completion of advance care planning documents, improving alignment of care with patient wishes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies of the Go Wish Game and other card-based advance care planning tools have shown promise in increasing end-of-life conversations and documentation, but evidence specifically in onco-hematologic populations remains limited.
