What this trial studies

This research investigates the effects of a comprehensive fall prevention program integrated with conventional physiotherapy on elderly patients who have undergone total knee replacement (TKR). The study aims to determine whether this combined approach is more effective in reducing falls, improving balance, and enhancing functional ability compared to conventional physiotherapy alone. It is a parallel group prospective randomized controlled trial lasting 24 weeks, focusing on older adults at Al-Razi orthopedic hospital. The study addresses the significant risk of falls in this population, which can lead to serious health complications.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 60 years and older who have been diagnosed with primary osteoarthritis of the knee and have undergone unilateral total knee replacement.

Not a fit: Patients who have had revision TKR surgery, systemic inflammatory conditions, neurological disorders, or other health issues that prevent participation in physiotherapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the incidence of falls among elderly patients recovering from knee replacement surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar exercise-based interventions for fall prevention in older adults, indicating a promising approach.
