What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the factors related to exacerbation and mortality in adults with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis in Hong Kong. It will assess the prevalence, clinical presentation, and outcomes of bronchiectasis, which is characterized by repeated exacerbations leading to increased hospital admissions and healthcare costs. The study will involve patients who are clinically stable and have a confirmed diagnosis of bronchiectasis through high-resolution computed tomography. The findings will help inform management plans for this condition.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 years or older who have a diagnosis of bronchiectasis and have been clinically stable for at least four weeks.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of cystic fibrosis, hypogammaglobulinemia, or allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights that lead to improved management strategies and outcomes for patients with bronchiectasis.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been previous studies on bronchiectasis, this study aims to provide updated prevalence and characteristics, making it a novel approach in the local context.
