What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of a multimodal, expressive arts-based intervention designed for adults aged 50 to 80 with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The intervention aims to enhance psychosocial wellness and help participants adjust to gradual vision loss through creative engagement. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the expressive arts intervention group or a treatment-as-usual control group over an 8-week period. The study will assess various outcomes, including psychosocial adaptation, quality of life, and symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are Chinese-speaking adults aged 50 to 80 diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration.

Not a fit: Patients who are totally blind or have significant comorbidities that impair their ability to participate may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the psychosocial well-being and quality of life for patients with age-related macular degeneration.

How similar studies have performed: While expressive arts interventions have shown promise in other populations, this specific approach for AMD is relatively novel and untested.
