What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the association between adrenal incidentalomas (AIs) and stroke, focusing on the risk of disability and death in stroke patients with AIs. It consists of two parts: a retrospective cohort study analyzing data from stroke patients between April and September 2021, and a prospective cohort study recruiting stroke patients from March 2022 to February 2024. The study aims to measure levels of autonomous cortisol secretion in these patients and assess the standardized incidence rate of AIs. Detailed information regarding stroke characteristics and patient profiles will be recorded throughout the study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with stroke, including those with cerebral infarction, intracerebral hemorrhage, or subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Not a fit: Patients with metastatic cancer, adrenal incidentalomas smaller than 1 cm, or those on specific glucocorticoid treatments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the risks associated with adrenal incidentalomas in stroke patients, potentially guiding better management and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While the association between adrenal incidentalomas and stroke is not extensively studied, this investigation aims to fill a gap in existing literature, making it a novel approach.
