What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the impact of stigma associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) on the quality of life of Egyptian patients. Conducted at Tanta University Hospitals, the study will utilize a cross-sectional survey targeting approximately 500 patients diagnosed with NAFLD/NASH and the physicians treating them. Participants will complete a questionnaire available in both Arabic and English, which will gather demographic, socioeconomic, and health-related data. The study will run from May 2024 to August 2024 or until the target number of participants is reached.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include Egyptian adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with NAFLD or NASH who are willing to participate in the survey.
Not a fit: Patients who are unwilling to participate or do not have a diagnosis of NAFLD or NASH will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the stigma surrounding liver diseases and improve patient care and support strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While stigma in health conditions has been studied, this specific focus on NAFLD and MAFLD stigma in the Egyptian context is relatively novel.
