What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the health trajectories of older adults aged 60 and above who are admitted to hospitals for alcohol-related problems in Norway. It focuses on patients who have not previously received specialized treatment for alcohol or drug issues. By analyzing registry data from three years before and after hospital admission, the study aims to assess the impact of brief alcohol interventions on patient outcomes. The study will also compare these patients to younger control groups to better understand the effects of age on alcohol-related health interventions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are older adults aged 60 and above who are admitted to hospitals for alcohol-related health issues and have no prior treatment history for substance use disorders.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously received specialized treatment for alcohol or drug use disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and treatment strategies for alcohol-related health problems in older adults.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in alcohol interventions, this specific approach focusing on older adults in Norway is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
