What this trial studies
This study investigates the role of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex in mental time travel (MTT), which is the ability to project oneself into past or future events. It focuses on patients with focal brain lesions and utilizes tasks such as mental time travel, age estimation, and lifeline tasks to assess cognitive functions. The research aims to understand how specific brain areas contribute to the ability to remember past events and imagine future scenarios, particularly in individuals with brain injuries.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with focal brain lesions but without general cognitive impairment.
Not a fit: Patients with psychiatric disorders or multiple brain lesions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance our understanding of cognitive rehabilitation strategies for patients with brain injuries.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in understanding the neural correlates of mental time travel, suggesting that this approach has a foundation in existing research.
