Exploring genetic factors in neuropathic pain
Exploring the Genetics of Neuropathic Pain

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify new genetic variants associated with the development of neuropathic pain, a condition affecting 7-8% of the general population. By utilizing existing population-based cohorts and establishing a registry and biobank for patients with neuropathy, the researchers will conduct genetic association studies to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying neuropathic pain. The study will involve international collaboration to ensure a large and diverse patient population, enhancing the reliability of the findings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 to 70 who have been referred for evaluation of possible distal symmetric polyneuropathy.
Not a fit: Patients who are too sick to participate or have conditions such as dementia or acute inflammatory polyneuropathy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved understanding and treatment options for patients suffering from neuropathic pain.
How similar studies have performed: Previous genetic studies on rare neuropathic disorders have shown promise in identifying mechanisms of neuropathic pain, suggesting potential success for this approach.
Eligibility criteria
