Exploring cognitive impairment and eye health in elderly individuals
The Associations of Retinal Microvascular Signs and Brain Imaging Markers With Cognitive Impairment in Patients With Small Vessel Disease

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on elderly individuals with cerebral small vessel disease who do not have known dementia or stroke. Participants will undergo neuropsychological testing, retinal imaging, and multimodal MRI to assess brain changes over time. The study aims to identify predictors of disease progression and cognitive deficits by analyzing various brain and retinal features. Blood samples will also be collected to further understand the relationship between these conditions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 40 and older who are free of known dementia or stroke.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications for MRI, serious head injuries, or cancer may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and management of cognitive impairment in the elderly.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated associations between cerebral small vessel disease and cognitive impairment, suggesting this approach may yield valuable insights.
