What this trial studies

This study investigates the cognitive and neurophysiological processes in individuals who have recently lost a loved one to violent death, such as homicide or suicide. It aims to identify attentional biases and changes in temporal perception that may contribute to the development of post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Participants will undergo behavioral assessments and electroencephalography to measure their cognitive responses to threatening stimuli. The research seeks to enhance understanding of the unique challenges faced by this population and the potential early indicators of psychiatric complications.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 65 who have recently experienced the violent death of a close relative.

Not a fit: Patients who do not have a recent bereavement by violent death or those with significant pre-existing psychiatric conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early interventions for individuals bereaved by violent death, potentially reducing the risk of developing severe psychiatric disorders.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing literature on bereavement and PTSD, this specific focus on cognitive biases in the context of violent death is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
