What this trial studies
Project EXCEL aims to provide community and online exercise programs tailored for rural and underserved cancer survivors. The initiative focuses on promoting lifelong exercise habits as a self-management strategy to enhance quality of life. Over five years, the project will implement and evaluate an Exercise Oncology Survivorship partnership model, creating sustainable pathways between cancer care clinics and trained fitness professionals. Participants will be screened for exercise safety and will engage in group exercise classes designed to meet their specific needs.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include cancer survivors over 18 years old who can participate in mild levels of activity and have had treatment within the last five years.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to participate in exercise or do not have access to the internet for online programs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the quality of life for cancer survivors living in rural and underserved areas.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in implementing exercise programs for cancer survivors, but this approach specifically targets rural and underserved populations, making it a novel initiative.
