What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the differences in treatment outcomes between patients with substance use disorders (SUD) who have comorbid PTSD and those with comorbid CPTSD. It will involve two groups of participants, each receiving integrated trauma-focused treatment alongside standard addiction care. Assessments will be conducted at various points to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment approaches. The study seeks to clarify the clinical relevance of distinguishing between PTSD and CPTSD in addiction treatment settings.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a substance use disorder and a diagnosis of either PTSD or CPTSD who are proficient in Dutch.

Not a fit: Patients without a substance use disorder or those who do not meet the diagnostic criteria for PTSD or CPTSD may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for patients with comorbid PTSD or CPTSD and substance use disorders.

How similar studies have performed: While the differentiation between PTSD and CPTSD is established, the specific integrated treatment approach in this context is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
