What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the quality of life (QOL) in patients undergoing surgery for thyroid tumours and thyroid cancer. Participants will complete validated questionnaires before surgery and at 6 and 12 months post-surgery to evaluate how their QOL is affected by their diagnosis and the surgical intervention. The study will categorize participants into three groups based on their diagnosis: benign tumours, malignant tumours with radioiodine treatment, and malignant tumours without radioiodine treatment. Data will be collected from medical records at Oslo University Hospital to support the findings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults scheduled for hemi- or total thyroidectomy due to suspicious thyroid tumours.
Not a fit: Patients who have had thyroid surgery within the last two years or those unable to complete the questionnaires will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the impact of thyroid cancer and its treatment on patients' quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated that quality of life in thyroid cancer patients may be lower than expected, suggesting that this approach is relevant and necessary.
