Examining inflammatory genes in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa
Regulation of Inflammatory Genes in Hidradenitis Suppurativa
This study is trying to see if certain inflammatory genes are different in people with hidradenitis suppurativa compared to healthy individuals, and it also looks at how childhood trauma might affect this skin condition.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the cytokine profile of patients diagnosed with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and the mechanisms responsible for the post-transcriptional regulation of these genes. The primary objective is to identify cytokines that are differentially expressed in HS patients compared to healthy controls. Additionally, there is an optional sub-study that explores the impact of childhood trauma on the condition. The study seeks to enhance understanding of HS, which is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that significantly affects patients' quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with hidradenitis suppurativa who are not pregnant.
Not a fit: Patients with mild dermatological issues or other inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis or atopic dermatitis may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of hidradenitis suppurativa, potentially enhancing patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the study explores known inflammatory markers, the specific focus on post-transcriptional regulation in HS is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
