Examining how carpal tunnel syndrome affects sleep quality
The Relationship Between Ultrasonographic Findings and Sleep Quality in Patients With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the relationship between the severity of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and the quality of sleep in affected patients, comparing their findings with healthy controls. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition caused by the compression of the median nerve, leading to symptoms such as pain and numbness, particularly at night. The study will assess sleep quality using established metrics to understand how CTS impacts patients' daily lives and sleep patterns. By identifying this relationship, the study seeks to clarify the mechanisms linking CTS and insomnia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome according to the American Academy of Neurology criteria.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as radiculopathy, previous carpal tunnel surgery, or other specified exclusions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights that improve the management of sleep disturbances in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between CTS and sleep quality has been explored in other studies, this specific approach focusing on ultrasonographic findings is relatively novel.
