What this trial studies
This observational study investigates how challenging walking tasks, such as pedal walking and walking with eyes covered, affect brain activation in stroke patients. Participants will wear a 32-lead electroencephalogram (EEG) cap while performing three different walking tasks to assess biomechanics and neural mechanisms involved in recovery. The study aims to understand the relationship between task difficulty and brain activation, potentially leading to improved rehabilitation strategies for stroke survivors.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are stroke patients who are at least 14 days post-stroke, can walk independently, and have an abnormal gait.
Not a fit: Patients with lesions in the brainstem or cerebellum, impaired vision, or severe cognitive impairment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance rehabilitation techniques for stroke patients, promoting better recovery outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies exploring the effects of challenging tasks on rehabilitation have shown promise, suggesting potential for success.
