What this trial studies
This project evaluates the Autism Doula program, which aims to provide culturally matched family navigation and social-emotional support for Black families of children recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The study will recruit 56 families to assess the program's acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary effectiveness compared to standard care. Key metrics include family satisfaction, completion rates of the intervention, and caregiver stress levels. The goal is to enhance equitable care and address barriers faced by these families in accessing services.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Black caregivers of children aged 18 months to five years who have recently received a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.
Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as Black or whose children are not recently diagnosed with autism may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve access to culturally responsive care for Black children with autism and their families.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative in its focus on culturally tailored support for Black families, similar interventions have shown promise in improving care equity in other populations.
