What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of a virtual, community-based music mindfulness program on stress management among People of African Descent (PADs) experiencing anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to address the mental health vulnerabilities faced by PADs due to systemic issues like racism and poverty, which are often overlooked in traditional mindfulness research. The study includes innovative social perception tasks where participants engage in non-verbal interactions to assess feelings of connectedness and approachability. The goal is to provide culturally relevant interventions that can effectively reduce stress and improve mental health outcomes in marginalized communities.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 16 and older from African American communities who are experiencing anxiety and depression.
Not a fit: Patients younger than 15 years old will not benefit from this study due to the exclusion criteria.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly enhance mental health support for PADs by integrating culturally relevant mindfulness practices with music.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on music mindfulness in PADs, similar studies have shown positive outcomes with mindfulness and music interventions in diverse populations.
