What this trial studies
This study investigates the health benefits of domestic adlay in managing hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia. It employs a randomized cross-over design where participants will consume either adlay with white rice or just white rice over two weeks. The goal is to assess the impact of adlay on cholesterol levels, blood sugar control, and cardiovascular health in individuals with high blood pressure and metabolic issues. A total of 60 patients aged 20 to 80 will be recruited from National Taiwan University Hospital, focusing on those with elevated cholesterol and glucose levels.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20 to 80 with hyperlipidemia or hyperglycemia who have stable treatment for at least 6 months.
Not a fit: Patients with secondary hyperglycemia or secondary hyperlipidemia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a natural dietary intervention for better management of cholesterol and blood sugar levels in patients.
How similar studies have performed: Preliminary evidence suggests that phytosterols can lower blood lipids, indicating potential success for similar dietary interventions.
