Evaluating saliva biomarkers in periodontal conditions
Evaluation of Salivary Interleukin-6, Interleukin-8 and LIGHT Protein Levels in Individuals With Different Periodontal Conditions
This study is testing if certain saliva markers can help identify different levels of gum disease in people with healthy mouths, gingivitis, or periodontitis.

What this trial studies
This study examines the levels of cytokines IL-6, IL-8, and LIGHT in saliva samples from individuals with varying periodontal health, including healthy individuals, those with gingivitis, and those with periodontitis. A total of 60 systemically healthy participants will be recruited, and their oral clinical parameters will be assessed alongside saliva collection. The goal is to determine if these biomarkers can serve as reliable diagnostic indicators for periodontal disease. Statistical analyses will be conducted to interpret the results and their implications for periodontal diagnostics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are systemically healthy individuals with at least twenty permanent teeth, including those with gingivitis or periodontitis.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases, those who smoke, or individuals who have received recent periodontal treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic methods for periodontal diseases, allowing for earlier intervention and better patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the role of cytokines in periodontal disease, suggesting potential success for this approach in identifying biomarkers.
