Evaluating physical fitness and blood flow in diverse populations

Validation of an Interval Test for Monitoring Cardiovascular Function for Individuals With Different Levels of Physical Fitness

Observational University of Ljubljana · NCT06669715

This study is testing how physical fitness and blood flow work in healthy people and those with prehypertension or obesity to see if certain fitness tests can help us understand their heart health better.

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess cardiorespiratory fitness and hemodynamic responses in both healthy individuals and those with prehypertension or obesity. Participants will undergo various fitness tests, including the IFT 30-15 test, a six-minute walking test, and a treadmill cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) to measure their maximum oxygen uptake and heart rate. The study seeks to validate these fitness assessments in a population that has not been extensively studied, particularly those with a BMI over 30 and limited cardiovascular function. Data collection will involve measuring participants' anthropometric characteristics, body composition, and blood pressure.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older, including those with prehypertension or obesity.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to walk without assistance or have acute injuries that limit physical exertion will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved assessment methods for cardiovascular fitness in individuals with obesity and hypertension, potentially guiding better health interventions.

How similar studies have performed: While the IFT 30-15 test has been validated in athletes, this study represents a novel approach to validating it in individuals with obesity and cardiovascular limitations.
