What this trial studies

This study aims to identify the prevalence of sarcopenia, or muscle loss, and its associated factors in patients diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. Participants will be divided into two groups: those with psoriatic arthritis and healthy volunteers. The study will involve rheumatological examinations and the measurement of quadriceps muscle thickness using ultrasonography to assess muscle health. The goal is to better understand how sarcopenia affects this patient population and to explore the utility of ultrasound in diagnosing the condition.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 65 who have been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis for at least one year.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological diseases, joint deformities, or cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved screening and management strategies for sarcopenia in patients with psoriatic arthritis.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into sarcopenia in various populations, this specific approach using ultrasonography in psoriatic arthritis is relatively novel.
