What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to assess the speech performance of children aged 8 to 10 years with anterior dental crossbite before and after orthodontic treatment. The study involves using a removable anterior expansion screw and posterior bite planes to correct the crossbite. Participants will undergo a speech evaluation and complete a Child Perceptions Questionnaire to measure the impact of the treatment on their quality of life. The goal is to determine the effectiveness of early interceptive orthodontic treatment in improving speech and overall oral health-related quality of life.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy children aged 8 to 10 years with at least one maxillary permanent incisor in a crossbite relationship.

Not a fit: Patients with systemic illnesses, previous speech therapy, or uncooperative behavior may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly enhance speech performance and quality of life for children with anterior crossbite.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored orthodontic treatments, this specific approach to evaluating speech performance post-treatment is relatively novel.
