Evaluating genetic factors in the development of collateral circulation in artery disease patients

Genome-wide Association Study of Development of Collateral Circulation for Patients With Coronary or Peripheral Artery Disease

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the genetic associations related to the development of collateral circulation in patients suffering from coronary or peripheral artery disease. By analyzing blood samples, researchers will identify genetic markers that may influence the formation of collateral circulation, which is crucial for improving blood flow in affected individuals. The findings could lead to the development of molecular genetic treatment models based on the identified associations. The study focuses on patients with chronic total occlusive lesions as seen in angiograms.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over the age of 20 with chronic total occlusive lesions in coronary or peripheral arteries.

Not a fit: Patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction, recent major surgery plans, or a history of gastrointestinal hemorrhage may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to personalized treatments that enhance collateral circulation, improving outcomes for patients with artery disease.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored genetic factors in cardiovascular conditions, this specific approach focusing on collateral circulation is relatively novel.
