Evaluating genetic factors in patients with calcium phosphate kidney stones
Evaluation of Genetic Abnormalities Amongst Calcium Phosphate Predominant Stone Formers With Alkaline Urine pH on 24 Hour Urine Testing
This study is testing if certain genetic factors in people with calcium phosphate kidney stones can help us understand how to prevent and manage these stones better.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the genetic abnormalities present in patients who form calcium phosphate kidney stones, a less common type of stone. It aims to determine whether these genetic factors contribute to the formation of stones, which could lead to improved management and prevention strategies. Participants will undergo genetic testing to identify any abnormalities linked to their condition. The study focuses on patients with a specific urine pH and stone composition, providing a targeted approach to understanding this issue.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-90 with a history of calcium phosphate kidney stones and specific urine pH levels.
Not a fit: Patients over 90 years old, those without evidence of calcium phosphate stones, or those with certain medical conditions will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to personalized treatment strategies for patients with calcium phosphate kidney stones, improving their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While genetic testing for kidney stones is not widely recommended, this study explores a novel approach that could provide new insights into the genetic factors involved in stone formation.
