Evaluating gene variations in patients with periodontitis
Evaluation of Inflammasome Gene Polymorphisms in Patients With Stage III, Grade B and C Periodontitis
Marmara University · NCT06465095
This study is testing whether certain gene variations are linked to the severity of gum disease in people with advanced periodontitis compared to those with healthy gums.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the distribution of specific inflammasome gene polymorphisms (NLRP3, AIM2, and IFI16) in individuals with Stage III Grade B and C periodontitis compared to periodontally healthy individuals. A total of 240 participants will be enrolled, with blood samples collected for DNA isolation and analysis. The study aims to identify genetic factors that may influence the severity and progression of periodontal disease by examining specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using Real-Time PCR. Clinical parameters will also be recorded to correlate genetic findings with periodontal health status.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include systematically healthy, non-smoking individuals aged 18 to 65 with either Stage III Grade B or C periodontitis or those who are periodontally healthy.
Not a fit: Patients with diagnosed medical disorders, recent antibiotic use, or those undergoing orthodontic treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of genetic factors in periodontitis, potentially leading to improved prevention and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the study focuses on specific gene polymorphisms in periodontitis, similar studies have shown that genetic factors can influence periodontal disease outcomes, suggesting potential for success.
