What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess various physical and respiratory parameters in children diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and compare them with healthy age- and sex-matched controls. Key evaluations will include pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength, exercise capacity, muscle oxygenation, and arterial stiffness. The study will involve at least 13 children with PAH and 13 healthy controls, with all assessments conducted over two days using specialized devices and tests. The findings may help understand the impact of PAH on physical capabilities and overall health in children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 6-18 diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension who are stable and receiving standard medical treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with acute infections, orthopedic or neurological issues, or those who have participated in an exercise program in the last three months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the physical limitations faced by children with PAH, potentially guiding better management and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While this study employs established assessment methods, the specific focus on children with PAH and the comprehensive evaluation of multiple physical parameters is relatively novel.
