Evaluating ELABELA as a diagnostic marker for kidney injury in septic shock patients
The Value of Serum ELABELA in Early Diagnosis of Sepsis-Associated Acute Kidney Injury
This study is testing if measuring a substance called ELABELA in the blood can help doctors spot kidney injury earlier in patients with septic shock.

What this trial studies
This observational study collects blood samples from patients diagnosed with sepsis and septic shock in the ICU to measure levels of ELABELA, creatinine, and NGAL. Blood samples are taken at various time points after diagnosis to analyze the potential of serum ELABELA as an early diagnostic marker for sepsis-associated acute kidney injury. The study also includes healthy individuals for comparison. The findings aim to improve early detection and management of acute kidney injury in septic patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults diagnosed with sepsis who are admitted to the ICU.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those with chronic kidney disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier diagnosis and better management of acute kidney injury in patients with sepsis.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using biomarkers for early diagnosis in sepsis is established, the specific focus on ELABELA is novel and has not been extensively tested.
